Myth: Showing up at a company, unannounced, a “cold call” is a good way to show you are confident and assertive.
Reality: Are you nuts? Bad idea!! People with jobs are usually working when you show up. They are unprepared to meet you, and very unlikely won’t have time to talk to you. You have “invaded their space” without their permission…..Is this a great “first impression?”…No!. There is a good chance this behavior will create a ‘bad’ first impression. Take the time to prepare a professional cover letter and resumé and send it with an appropriate follow-up…it is the ‘first impression’ that really counts.
